In Sardinia, a full tank of diesel fuel costs almost €7 more today, July 15th, than it did twelve days ago, July 3rd, the last day of the "discount" applied by the government as a measure to contain price increases due to the crisis in Iran. The same goes for a full tank of gasoline, which has increased by almost €5 in less than two weeks.

The National Consumers Union denounced this in a statement, which reads: "Today, the Ministry of Mimit announced that diesel has exceeded 2 euros, even on the road network. In Sardinia, the price is 2.028 euros per liter, but the record is reached in Bolzano (2.051 euros), then in Sicily (2.039), and in Friuli (2.038). What is most worrying, however, are the price increases that came after the abolition of the 5 cent per liter reduction in excise duties (6.1 cents with VAT at 22%)."

In Sardinia, as mentioned, the increase from July 3rd to 15th for a full tank of diesel fuel is €6.80, while that for a full tank of gasoline is €4.90. Given these prices and the new increases, "the Government," comments Massimiliano Dona, president of the UNC, "cannot wash its hands of the situation like Pontius Pilate. It must reinstate the discount, given the oil prices and the situation in the Middle East, which, instead of improving, continues to worsen."
