The Region: Stricter measures avoided if the epidemiological situation does not changePer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The technical term is stamping out. This is what happened to 190 cattle on farms in Sarrabus, between Muravera and Villaputzu, where five animals had contracted the lumpy skin disease virus. The operations have been concluded, the Region announced. The monitoring phase is now underway.
"Should the epidemiological situation remain stable and no further outbreaks occur," a statement reads, "the imposition of a Single Restricted Zone by the European Commission could be avoided." This would mean the threat of a travel ban across the island would be averted.
Surveillance and "the maintenance of surveillance measures remain essential for consolidating the currently favorable situation." The primary objective remains the protection of Sardinia's livestock heritage, while "safeguarding the livestock farmers' economic activities, the cornerstone of the island's economy."
