The decoration returns to one of the most valuable elements of the splendid Basilica of Saccargia, in the municipality of Codrongianos.

In recent days, the restorer of the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage of Sassari and Nuoro, Sofia Bertolini, intervened on a column of the majestic monument to remove a writing that compromised its appearance.

An episode that sparked anger and protests, fueling a debate on social media. A simple comment from a visitor calling the basilica "beautiful" was yet another reason to be respectful toward a building of great architectural value, yet one that has left a visible mark.

The Superintendency, in agreement with the Archdiocese of Sassari, immediately began planning the intervention. The work is still ongoing: a delicate operation requiring care and respect for the materials, to remove traces of ink without damaging the surface.

In any case, it is an act of vandalism punishable by the Cultural Heritage and Landscape Code, which prohibits damage and provides for sanctions to protect cultural and architectural heritage.
