Deer disease, Solinas: "No new outbreaks, we ask for the blockade to be lifted"

The Region is ready to ask for the unblocking of cattle handling. "The good news is that the investigations carried out have not revealed any further outbreaks of deer disease other than those already observed," said Governor Christian Solinas. The discovery of the presence of the virus in an Arbus farm had led the Ministry of Health to impose a stop on the movement of all animals that could be infected.
Now the alarm seems to have disappeared. But the Sicilian MEP Francesca Donato, ex Lega, raises the controversy: the Sardinian blockade, she claims, «is an inadequate measure. But it is clear that Solinas' elimination of the junta without a new executive and the consequent absence of a health assessor at this moment represents a serious political responsibility. Sardinia and farmers are waiting for answers».
The president of the Region replies by saying that he does not accept «any exploitation of this latest disaster that has hit the island. We must not forget», he adds, «that the deer disease virus arrived from North Africa through insects carried by the Saharan winds, causing the first cases to be recorded in Europe. Our technicians had the great merit of recognizing a disease that was not yet present in our area and which otherwise could have spread to the rest of the continent".
Solinas assures: "We have been at work, from the very first moment, to give the sector all possible support, the political changes in the Giunta have not stopped the work already started by the Crisis Unit, which continues to operate in close collaboration with Rome" .
