Sheep, goats and cattle can once again be taken out of Sardinia. The green light for the movement of the garments, with some prescriptions, came with a note from the Ministry of Health. Therefore, the restrictions imposed by the disease outbreaks of deer and bluetongue (serotype 3) have been overcome.

Movement outside the region is once again allowed from the whole island to farm animals that have undergone the specific PCR test with negative results with respect to the deer disease.

The same procedure is envisaged for the movement of animals from areas of the island infected with blue tongue serum type three, while, in the rest of Sardinia, in relation to the other serotypes, movements can resume regularly without PCR tests for the identification of the blue tongue virus.

In all cases where the specific test is required, the animals to be handled must be subjected to PCR at the end of a period of insect-repellent treatment of at least seven days and which must in any case be carried out until the day of departure.

The animals can be moved freely (i.e. without prior testing) only for slaughter which, the ministry specifies, must be "carried out in the shortest possible time".

"Another positive news for our livestock sector, in a particularly important period of the year for production and the market," declared the regional health councilor, Carlo Doria. "Not only were we able to unblock a total stoppage that had lasted for over a month, due to the appearance of deer disease in our area", continues the exponent of the Giunta, "but we have finally obtained a further result on the bluetongue front , with the green light for the movement of the animals also from the areas affected by serotype three".
