All sent to trial for the death of four racehorses from the Clodia stable on a Moby ferry . The decision is by the preliminary investigations judge of Tempio, Marco Contu.

The events occurred on July 13, 2020, on the Moby Aki motor vessel, which left Civitavecchia and arrived in Olbia. The four racehorses, worth almost one million euros, were supposed to participate in a race at the Chilivani racecourse.

According to the investigations, the animals died of heat stroke in the ship's garage during the crossing . The captain of the ferry Antonio Scotto Di Cicariello, the first officer Francesco Lo Nostro, the deck officer cadet Ernesto Prudente and the driver of the truck in charge of transporting the horses will be on trial (next February 28). The defendants are defended by Giovanni Cimmino, Francesco Longhini and Maurizio Mani. The requests of the prosecutor and the civil parties (the Clodia stable, represented by the lawyer Nazarena Tilocca, and the non-profit organization Horse Angels, assisted by the lawyer Giulia Cossu) were considered well-founded.

The GUP has sent the Moby company and the Pieraccini haulage company to trial as civilly responsible . Lawyer Nazarena Tilocca declared: «I hope that this affair will serve to make everyone responsible, it is necessary to apply the regulations on the methods of transporting animals in a timely manner».
