The municipalities of Cagliari and Quartu Sant'Elena have declared a state of natural disaster following the passage of Cyclone Harry.
At the request of Mayor Massimo Zedda, the Cagliari City Council has approved the declaration of a state of natural disaster following the damage caused by adverse weather conditions that occurred from Monday, January 19th to Wednesday, January 21st, affecting both public and private buildings and structures.
For properties directly owned by the municipality, it will be the responsibility of the various departments, each for their own areas of jurisdiction, to quantify the damage incurred.
In Quartu, following up on Mayor Graziano Milia's announcement, today the City Council officially resolved to involve state, regional, and metropolitan authorities, requesting immediate intervention, including financial support, to begin the process of restoring the area following the severe weather events that caused extensive damage to residential properties and structural problems along the entire road and drainage system earlier this week.
The severe weather that hit Quartu affected the entire municipal area. The critical conditions caused the flooding of numerous city streets and private properties, businesses, agricultural and livestock farms, as well as damage to environmental assets and public infrastructure.
The coastal area was particularly hard hit, both the urbanized part and the low, sandy coast, with extensive flooding of roads and structures, attributable to the exceptional storm surges.
