The sun is shining, but the situation on the Sinis beaches is increasingly grim. The mayor of Cabras, Andrea Abis, is about to issue yet another ordinance to ban access to another area of the seaside village of San Giovanni di Sinis . In a matter of hours, it will no longer be possible to use the Istmo beach , beyond the tower, on the right. A small paradise that has always filled with swimmers from the early hours of the morning in summer.
The decision was made today, following the mayor's umpteenth inspection of all the areas affected by the severe weather last February, which damaged almost all the steps leading to the beaches. "Unfortunately, the situation on the Isthmus is even more critical than in other areas, which is why I must immediately prohibit traffic and therefore access," explains Abis. "Here too, there are several fractures in the ground, but there are also many boulders. The risk is high. The shorter the stretches, the greater the danger."
Meanwhile, the mayor also announced that, given that the regional government and the Civil Protection Department haven't responded to requests for funding to repair the damage caused by the storm surges, the Municipality of Cabras will advance the funds to renovate all the wooden access points. "All the work has a timeline, which is why I can't wait for responses from the authorities, which have so far remained silent. Now we need to figure out how to raise all the resources; we're talking about around €400,000. It won't be an easy task. One stairway needs to be completely redone, and others need to be renovated, including the bridge to Mari Ermi beach. I'll have to work hard, but above all, block other expenses. I don't know what they are yet. But by June, I want everything to be accessible."
