Citizen mourning in Cuglieri, the former mayor Giovanni Battista Foddis, known to all as Battista, who would have turned 83 in December, has passed away. He had been ill for some time and passed away late yesterday evening, May 13. A surveyor by profession, he was an administrator from 2001 to 2011, two consecutive terms leaving an indelible mark on the town.
He is remembered for his energetic pragmatism and his decisive character, little inclined to compromise. Ten intense years in which he brought large amounts of funding to the town of Montiferru, which has seen important changes in the town center and beyond.
Under his mandate, the Bordovalle ring road in Cuglieri was built, so as not to congest the very busy Corso Umberto where the north-western state road 292 passes. Then the arrangement and embellishment of the processional streets of the historic center, for the evocative Holy Week in Cuglieri, and then the important expansion of the cemetery.
With him, Cuglieri played a key role in the Titulos project, the network of feudal cities in Sardinia, and then obtained major funding from the Region for the pilot project of the historic center of Santa Caterina, which later merged into Anima Mundi, which was supposed to redevelop and enhance the seaside village, but was remodeled into other actions.
Among the controversial aspects is the construction of the variant to state road 292, first tenaciously supported by Foddis and then rejected by him after the construction of the Bordovalle road.
