A large boulder fell during the night between Sunday and Monday from the rocky ridge above Highway 292 at the Cuglieri exit towards Sennariolo. A large block of rock fell from the embankment in the Riamuscas area , where there was once an old quarry. The boulder tumbled down the face and landed on the shoulder of the road , secured by a metal fence. By pure chance, it caused no damage to people or property; no cars were passing by at the time of the landslide.
A landslide likely caused by recent heavy rains , which brought a boulder weighing several tons to the road, along with earth and debris, but without obstructing the entire road or obstructing traffic. A technical team from Anas with its rock climbers, the Cuglieri Fire Department, and the Municipality's technical office responded to the scene.
Segnal Strade, which is carrying out the work on behalf of Anas, then cleared the debris and made the area safe, which is now constantly monitored to prevent further possible collapses .
The heavy rainfall is creating major difficulties for many mountain towns like Cuglieri. Its hilly and mountainous terrain, with its many slopes and escarpments, is naturally prone to landslides.
Near Riamuscas, another significant rock and earth avalanche occurred at the end of December 2020: large boulders broke away from the summit and fell onto the highway, blocking the entire roadway. Although this is a natural phenomenon, it is causing concern among residents and motorists who travel along the highway daily.
