The trial for the death of Gianuario Derudas, crushed by a forklift in October 2021 at the recycling center on Via Ariosto in Sassari, has been acquitted, albeit with a doubtful outcome. Prosecutor Paolo Piras urged this conclusion for the manslaughter defendants, Enrico Besta and Stefano Soro, executives of "Ambiente Italia," the company that manages the city's waste collection service.
The request came after the expert report, ordered by Judge Paolo Bulla, and presented by the appointed technician, who was asked to answer two questions. These concerned the alleged failure to monitor the use of seat belts and the use of the forklift on the day of the accident on a slope that was not permitted by the technical manual. No irregularities were identified in these matters, as also argued by defense attorney Massimo Pellicciotta, in the pre-examination discussion, where Magistrate Erica Angioni had requested one year and four months for both defendants.
"The seatbelts were intact and working," the lawyer from the Milan court declared yesterday in court. "And that pending case could have been closed according to the company's rules." The replies and possibly the verdict are scheduled for September 20th.
