The Rotary Club of La Maddalena and the Rotary Club of Bastia (Corsica), more committed than ever to establishing a cross-border and international twinning relationship, held their first official meeting last Saturday. On that occasion, a Corsican delegation led by current president Christine Simoni, accompanied by Paul Franchi, the incoming president, met in La Maddalena with her current president, Marilde Massimetti, along with Fulvia Orecchioni, who will succeed her in the coming months. The meeting focused on furthering the understanding between the members of the two clubs, exploring their shared Rotary goals—as well as the unique characteristics that distinguish them as the expression of two neighboring Mediterranean islands, with often intertwined histories (just look at the surnames of the two Corsican leaders)—and sharing several social initiatives.

Among these, the Rotary Club of Bastia Doyen is carrying out the "Occitady Training" project, a support program for children with specific language and learning disabilities. The initiative provides support to teachers through funding, from the Rotary Club of Bastia Doyen, of specific training courses, including practical classroom management tools, accompanied by a dedicated implementation program. The project was presented by the Corsican guests to their colleagues from La Maddalena with a view to their similar implementation, benefiting the schools and teachers of La Maddalena. The Rotary Club of La Maddalena has shown particular interest in the initiative of its Corsican colleagues and will implement the necessary measures in the coming days with a view to possibly implementing the same project on the island. An exchange of visits to Corsica is planned for this spring, during which the twinning between the Rotary Club of La Maddalena and the Rotary Club of Bastia Doyen is expected to be officially established.
