Those are reassuring numbers, those that the Interior Ministry has made known regarding Sardinia, as far as crime is concerned. The provinces of the island, according to data processed by Il Sole 24 ore, are among the safest in Italy . The focus, which takes into account the crimes reported, highlights a general decline in crimes throughout the country, with Sardinia being no exception, on the contrary.
The province of Oristano , in particular, is said to be last in Italy for crime . In 2022, in fact, there were 2588 complaints: with 1658.1 complaints per 100 thousand inhabitants (down by 13.2%), it is the one hundred and sixth province out of one hundred and six. From this point of view, the "worst" in the region would be Sassari , however in sixtieth place overall. Also at the bottom of the ranking is Cagliari , in position 88 with 2606.8 complaints per 100 thousand inhabitants, and Nuoro – in eighty-sixth.
Yet in the latter an alarming figure emerges on the voluntary homicide front: between 2019 and the first half of 2023, 2.4 per 100 thousand inhabitants were reported in Nuoro. Important figures, which make it the third province of Italy in this sad ranking : only Agrigento (2.9) and Foggia (2.7) did worse. On the other hand, still analyzing the number of reports for specific types of crime, Nuoro is second to last in Italy for home burglaries and sexual violence.
Thefts are almost absent in Oristano : the province does little worse than Nuoro for those in homes, but is at the bottom of the national ranking for those involving break-ins and dexterity. Second to last place for Oristano also with regards to extortion.
