The sea has been rough these days, but swimmers continue to swim. Today, in Costa Rei (Municipality of Muravera), a 51-year-old man was rescued and saved thanks to the timely intervention of Lorenzo Farci, a 20-year-old lifeguard from Muravera who works at the "Sa Murta" beach resort (between Via delle Rose and Via degli Asfodeli). The rescue was coordinated by resort manager Carlo Paglietti.
The incident occurred around 1:20 PM when the man fell into a hole in the seabed about 150 meters from the shore. From the watchtower, Lorenzo Farci noticed the man's difficulty returning to shore. He was trying to swim but remained stuck in the same spot. The lifeguard dived in with fins, mask, snorkel, and rescue can (a floating device to keep swimmers safe) and brought him back to shore safe and sound. The man was lucid but extremely fatigued. Ultimately, his condition was not particularly concerning.
Carlo Paglietti, a historic figure in the Sarrabus rescue service, emphasized the rapid response and the importance of constant monitoring. "Lorenzo," he said, "did a great job and operated under our constant observation." The established procedure with the Port Authority was immediately activated. Yesterday, another person—in this case, a woman from Selargius—was rescued in Villaputzu by a young lifeguard.
