Cormorants, which even come to eat   ten kilos of fish in a month , have already shown up to spend the winter in the lagoons of Oristano. Punctual as always and with all the inconveniences that this entails. For the fishermen it is therefore already time for culling, in the meantime however they are raising their voices. In fact, it does not contain compensation that they should shortly receive from the Region for the loss of earnings.

But they also point the finger at the census method. There is a lot of discontent, which is why a few days ago several presidents of the fishing consortia, along with some trade associations, reached the regional fisheries department in Cagliari. During the meeting with the agriculture councilor Gian Franco Satta, several critical issues were highlighted that could damage the coffers of the consortia: "We pointed out to the member of the council that the census cannot be carried out only twice a month in 5 time slots - explains Mauro Steri, head of the fishing sector of Legacoop - The data is too partial. Twice in thirty days is too few to establish an exact presence of cormorants. Also because on one of the two days it could be in flight, for example. This is why we are asking for greater monitoring frequency. Everything depends on the census: the number of cormorants that can be shot, for example, but above all the compensation".

But the economic side is not good either: «The Region - Steri continues - has decided that to finance the loss of earnings due to the presence of the birds, the biomass will be taken into consideration, therefore the catch, from October to March, the months in which the cormorants are present. We ask instead to consider the turnover in that precise period. Fishing could stop for many reasons».
