"Climate change must be a major political concern," Mayor Massimo Zedda explained in a Facebook post. The administration has adopted measures to combat the heat, and in the coming years, Cagliari will have a thousand new trees throughout the capital, in addition to the 500 that will complete the major redevelopment of the Anelli park in Sant'Elia. "Thanks to European resources and regional funding, obtained following Cyclone Harry," the mayor explained, "we can launch greenery maintenance programs and urban forestry projects."

The mayor explains that he has identified several climate-controlled shelters, starting with the city's numerous urban parks and air-conditioned spaces. "We will make them more recognizable with appropriate signage and an interactive map on the city's website," he continues. "Via Garibaldi will be the first place where we will install shade, thanks to a European project that has chosen Cagliari to test interventions to combat the effects of climate change." In a statement released yesterday, Zedda announced that over €7 million will be used for lighter-colored asphalt, capable of reducing the absorption and accumulation of heat on road surfaces; for the creation of shaded areas using structures and shade sails; and for the creation of infrastructure that improves water management. " We are also planning investments to air-condition classrooms in the city's schools ," the mayor concludes.
