Another disruption to flight continuity: checked baggage travels on the next flight after passengers.

The first "incident" along the way was reported via email by the mother of a 14-year-old Italian surfing champion. On Friday, the girl, accompanied by a stewardess, was traveling to Linate from Cagliari to meet with the national coach. From there, she traveled to Milan's other airport, Malpensa, to catch a second flight to the competition site in Bilbao, Spain. "But the Sardinian competitor's boards never arrived at Linate. Our daughter," says Alessia Fulgheri, "is competing with rented equipment. This adds to the cost," which is compounded by the impact of competing on a board she doesn't own.

The delays

Everything resolved? Not in the slightest. Until last night at 6:00 PM, the 14-year-old's mother knew that her daughter's sports bags, "paid for as extra baggage," were at Linate: "They're tracked with our GPS, so we know. But we haven't received any official communication from Aeroitalia." The equipment will not be sent back to Sardinia: "My husband has to go to Linate to get it."

Second case

The other inconvenience on the return flight, also on Friday. The proof is a photo story posted on Facebook by Cagliari journalist Giovanni Manca di Nissa. "From Milan-Linate, bound for Cagliari, they're loading baggage from the previous flight. To wait for yours, you have to wait for the next flight."
