Air travel (and other services) is still struggling. Flights to and from Sardinia have recently once again become the focus of controversy and protests from travelers who have seen their flights canceled or postponed at short notice. Not to mention the already sold-out nature of those planning to return to the island from Milan or Rome during the June 2nd long weekend.

Other cancellations

The incidents last Tuesday and Wednesday in Alghero and Elmas are not the latest. Different problems but the same outrage on Sunday for passengers preparing to board the 10:25 PM Ryanair flight from Cagliari to Malpensa, which was postponed several times throughout the night until finally being cancelled and scheduled for yesterday afternoon. Also on Monday, the 9:10 AM Aeroitalia flight to Florence was canceled, as was the midday Florence-Cagliari flight.

The Italian airline confirmed the cancellation of the routes, without however explaining the reasons: "We cancelled flight 2331 on May 17th, which had 7 passengers, and reprotected it 40 minutes later; flight 2344 on May 17th, which had 14 passengers, and reprotected it 2 hours later." But that's not all: "Then we will cancel flight 2336 on May 21st, with 119 passengers, and reprotected it 2 hours later."

It's likely that to optimize costs, Aeroitalia is preferring to consolidate routes with few passengers to make them depart in a single takeoff, although doubts remain about the short notice given to those who found themselves unaware of everything already at the airport.

Low availability

Meanwhile, the June 2nd long weekend promises to be a busy one for those wishing to visit Sardinia for the holidays. Yesterday, booking a flight from Linate for Friday, May 29th, was impossible. Both to Cagliari and Olbia. The Fiumicino-Olbia flight was also sold out on the same day.
