The Municipality of Quartu is ready to appeal the extension of work on the SP 17 for the Tyrrhenian Link project. The administration is taking legal action against the decision of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari to authorize Terna's work to continue until July 3rd , the height of the summer season. This is an extremely sensitive time of year, as the coastal road is crowded with tourists and motorists heading to Villasimius.
The administration led by Mayor Graziano Milia has decided to initiate legal proceedings to challenge the ordinance that allows the maintenance of traffic restrictions along one of Quartu's most important roads . " On several occasions, including at service conferences, we have primarily stressed to Terna the need to be particularly sensitive and attentive to the problems of that road . It seems to me that this has not happened," Mayor Graziano Milia stated. "This morning, the City Council resolved to initiate legal proceedings to challenge the Metropolitan City's ordinance," the mayor added.
The restrictions imposed on the coastal road, according to the administration, could have significant consequences for traffic , with slowdowns, traffic jams, and increased travel times along the main access roads to coastal towns. This situation could penalize not only road users but also local businesses and industries , which depend largely on summer tourism. However, concerns also include the potential impact on road safety and the timeliness of emergency and rescue operations .
For this reason, Quartu will entrust the matter to a lawyer to verify the legitimacy of the Metropolitan City's ordinance and assess whether there are grounds for an appeal. The stated objective is to protect the interests of the city and its governed community by requesting a review of a decision deemed incompatible with the needs of the now-started tourist season.
