There's a change at the helm of the Scientific Investigations Unit (RIS) in Cagliari. Effective September 7 , Colonel Andrea Berti will step down after three years at the helm to assume the role of commander of the RIS in Rome.
He will be replaced by Lieutenant Colonel Alessandro Mameli, a biologist and former commander of the Biology Section of the RIS in Cagliari, with extensive experience first at the RIS in Parma and then, since 2004, in Cagliari.
During his term Berti led the department in numerous high-profile investigations, including the murder of Francesca Deidda, the murder of Cinzia Pinna, and the double homicide on Via Ghibli. Under his leadership , scientific collaborations were also developed with the University of Cagliari and the CRS4 (Crime Scene Research Center) aimed at developing new methodologies for forensic analysis and 3D crime scene reconstruction.
