Fausto Durante is the new general secretary of CGIL Sardinia: this morning the General Assembly meeting in Cagliari elected him, accepting the proposal of the national regulatory center represented by the secretary Gino Giove.

Salentino born in Lecce 63 years ago , the newly elected secretary has a thirty-year bond with Sardinia, an intertwining of personal life - the military in Sassari in 1984 - and trade union, with industrial disputes, the petrochemical in Porto Torres, Alcoa and Eurallumina , which he followed, on the island and in the ministry, when he was in the Fiom national secretariat.

The metalworkers category was his first home but also the one he embraced in a life as a trade unionist : an official of the Communist Party before and of the PDS later, with a metalworker contract, in 1993 the workers of the factories in Lecce and surroundings had him elected provincial secretary Fiom.

From there he then moved on to the national category, which in 2000 translated his passion for foreign languages into the new position as head of the office for Europe wanted by the then secretary Sabattini.

And again, in 2012 he was appointed head of the Europe Secretariat and subsequently coordinator of the European and international policies area of the national CGIL. For three years he has coordinated the Industrial Council of the national CGIL and from today, the new adventure, on the island, with the emotional thrust of those who have always known it and the passion and commitment to deepen and deal with disputes and claims of the union in Sardinia. .
