On the centenary of the consecration of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Bonaria as a Basilica (1926–2026), a truly special initiative is also coming to a close: the “Centenary Relay”.
A torch lit in Olbia, in the Basilica of San Simplicio, is crossing the whole of Sardinia, step by step, stage by stage, until reaching Cagliari, at the Basilica of Nostra Signora di Bonaria.
A journey of over 350 kilometers that unites faith, tradition, and sporting passion, passing through wonderful and meaningful places.
"Yesterday," said Alessandro Scano, former mayor of Decimoputzu, "I had the privilege of being a part of it: I carried the torch along with other athletes on the stages from Barumini to Villanovafranca and from Villanovafranca to Guasila. It wasn't just running, but sharing, emotion, and spirituality. An experience I will carry with me." The torch will arrive in Sinnai tomorrow night from Monserrato, carried by a group of athletes. It will arrive shortly before the midnight Mass celebrated by Monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, Archbishop of Cagliari. Immediately afterward, the pilgrimage on foot to Bonaria will begin along Via Roma in Sinnai, arriving in Bonaria around 8:00 a.m. on April 25th.
