48 hours after the accident on the Nuova Orientale Sarda when her car was hit by a deer that suddenly crossed the road, Alessia Cuccu, 31, originally from San Vito, resident in Castiadas, recounted those terrible moments experienced with a friend in the darkness of the very busy state road.

"I've walked that stretch of Orientale a thousand times," he says. "I've never seen a deer in the nearby countryside."

The other night, the young employee of a tourist facility in the area, took a big risk, together with a friend, Francesca Matta, 26 years old. Alessia was driving her Panda the other night.

Her friend, at her side. "It was two minutes to 3, kilometer 31 of the Orientale, the busiest road in the area," says Alessia Cuccu, "I suddenly saw that deer fly almost from the countryside. It was total panic, it was terrible. A fraction of a second, then a thump in the heart. That big deer, it shot towards the Panda, shattering the left front lights. I felt and sensed the impact, I was brave enough to hold on to the steering wheel. Thank goodness."

“Park the car right away,” Francesca suggested. We were in the middle of the road. I was in shock. If it weren’t for my colleague, I would have stayed there. I turned the engine back on, which had stalled, and I entered the emergency lane, thus avoiding a possible chain accident. I also saw the deer, dead on the opposite side of the road, I called 115, I asked for help.”

In short, they were dramatic moments. "Francesca and I were in shock, a little sore, then we rushed to the emergency room at the Muravera hospital. Luckily, nothing serious. We also had an x-ray and an orthopedic examination. No serious injuries emerged. We will have to do some physiotherapy. But believe me, it was terrible, that deer could have entered the car, overturned it. I experienced moments that I would not wish on anyone: I can't even sleep. I always see that poor animal lying on the road, immersed in the darkness."
