The opposition council group "Castelsardo Bene Comune" is addressing the thermal insulation problem that has persisted for months in the historic center of the tourist village. After the majority rejected the motion presented in the chamber , the opposition councilors sent a formal complaint to the Prefecture of Sassari and the Italian Communications Regulatory Authority (Agcom). Since September 10th, an entire neighborhood has been forced to live without internet service. "This is an unsustainable situation for an area primarily inhabited by elderly people, for whom a telephone is not a luxury, but a lifesaver, especially considering that in the same area, mobile phone coverage is either non-existent or extremely weak and inconsistent, making it virtually impossible to use alternative means of communication when necessary."

During the City Council meeting on November 28, the opposition motion calling for immediate and formal intervention with the telephone network operator and a formal report of a serious and prolonged disruption to essential service to Agcom and the Prefect of Sassari was rejected. The minority group deemed the reasons given by the majority unacceptable: "It was argued that 'Telecom's intervention system must necessarily be activated by the same user experiencing the disruption ' and that 'it is not necessary to contact the Prefect or the regulatory authorities because the company involved is continuously intervening even if it is unable to resolve all the ongoing disruptions.'" Having acknowledged the position of Mayor Maria Lucia Tirotto and the council, the opposition decided to take action independently.

"Our group has nevertheless notified the Prefect and AGCOM of the serious situation," states Antonio Capula, minority group leader. Meanwhile, the elderly continue to remain isolated, and the minority group is not giving up. It recently submitted a request to find out whether, "following the council discussion, formal contact has been initiated with the telephone network operator to request the restoration of the lines, and whether the Administration has a technical report or a timetable for the definitive resolution of the fault. Other mayors, including recently in Sardinia, have contacted higher authorities in similar isolation situations," concludes Capula. "Our Administration, which rejected the motion, responded with a terse "we're dealing with it," but the phones have been silent for four months now."
