The heavy downpour and gusts of wind caused the roof of the stage set up in Piazza Maestro in Castelsardo to collapse on the occasion of the New Year's Eve which featured the singer Mahmood.

It happened in the late afternoon of Sunday 7 January, when no one was present and the area was practically deserted . The failure is most likely due to the rain which flooded the roof and caused the support pillars to collapse.

The stage was supposed to host the parade of Disney characters on Epiphany day, an event canceled due to bad weather.

The municipal administration of Castelsardo is already taking steps to secure the area to avoid further risks of collapses of parts of the structure.
