Fire broke out in the green space near Elephant Rock, in the municipality of Castelsardo, right at the foot of the UNESCO World Heritage site . On-site, in the Coinsar area, CVSM personnel (the Volunteer Maritime Rescue Corps) responded once again to put out the flames. Two car tires had reportedly been set alight, not far from already dry hedges and close to Mediterranean scrub at risk of fire spread.
This is the third time in just a few months . "We are here," say the CVSM volunteers, "but perhaps it's time to start asking some questions and condemn these senseless and unjustified acts against our territory." The fire was immediately extinguished, but the risk remains for the Elephant Rock site, which houses two Domus de Janas, excavated on different levels. It is one of the emblems of Castelsardo, located in the Multeddu area, at km 4.3 of the state road 134, which connects the tourist village to the municipality of Sedini.
