A 37-year-old man , resident in the Cagliari hinterland, was arrested last night by Carabinieri officers from the Carloforte station on charges of aggravated theft. The single, unemployed man was stopped while attempting to leave the island in a recently stolen car.

The operation was triggered by a timely alert from the vehicle owner , who noticed a man leaving in his small car, parked in the courtyard of his home. The precise description provided to the officers and their knowledge of the area allowed for a rapid response.

The Carabinieri immediately activated several checkpoints at strategic points in the town. The stolen car was located near the ferry boarding area, with the alleged thief still on board . The man was arrested on the spot.

Meanwhile, the Operations Center of the Carbonia Company had ordered the ports of Calasetta and Portoscuso to be guarded to prevent any possible escape route from the island.

The vehicle was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.

After the usual formalities, the 37-year-old was held in the Command's holding cells pending trial under the fast-track procedure, as ordered by the Judicial Authority.
