Mystery surrounds an accident that occurred around 11:30 PM yesterday on Via Lucania in Carbonia. For reasons yet to be determined, a Seat Altea crashed into one of the trees on the downtown street.

Residents immediately called the police. Officers from the Via Trieste police station arrived on the scene, but there was no sign of the driver.

Initial reports suggest the car was stolen from its rightful owner, and the driver fled the scene immediately after the impact. The car suffered significant damage.

Police investigations will determine the exact circumstances. The car remained in the middle of the road for over an hour before being towed away.
