There hasn't been a mine that they haven't entered in their 35 years and more of very hard work, even underground, at -400 meters underground.

Their often enormous sacrifice, the marks of which they still bear on their bodies, was rewarded today in Bacu Abis during the fifth edition of the "Miner's Festival" , organized by the coordination of the Bacu Abis Associations, in the presence of the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Carbonia Giorgia Meli and of the parish priest Giuseppe Tilocca.

But the absolute protagonists of the event were them, four over ninety-year-old miners whose curricula literally include all the sites and mining shafts of Sulcis: sacred monsters of work in the bowels of the earth.

An exciting recognition therefore went to Antonio Mocci, 93, Francesco Setzu, 93, Silvano Farris, 92 (and also to Antonio Urigu, 96, who however remained at home for health reasons) .

The certificate delivery ceremony at Pozzo Castoldi was truly impressive, one of the many where the last four miners still alive of Bacu Abis worked, together with the sites of Seruci, Nuraxi Figus, Cortoghiana, Pozzo Est, Pozzo Nuovo, Pozzo Roth , Pozzo Emilio, as well as the renowned mine of Serbariu in Carbonia.

They were silent and tenacious witnesses of the mining epic, made up of sweat and blood, renunciations and very few joys. Then followed the commemoration of all the miners who died on the job, tragedies of which the four nonagenarians were unfortunately witnesses.
