Overturned chairs, a Volkswagen Golf parked haphazardly with its front passenger window completely shattered and numerous shards of glass scattered across the asphalt. All around, only silence and darkness.

This was the scene encountered by officers from the Flying Squad who responded late yesterday evening to Via Pertini, on the outskirts of Nuoro, after a report reached the emergency number of gunshots fired at chest height at a car. The alarm was raised between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM. According to the call, several shots were fired near the square where a street food truck usually parks.

When the police arrived, however, no one was there. The signs left at the scene, along with the alarm call, suggested something unusual had happened. Some chairs in the cafeteria had been overturned, despite the usual weekend crowds and the time of day. This was a sign that someone had perhaps escaped in a hurry. Officers immediately began an investigation to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the incident. Specifically, investigators are investigating how many people were present at the time of the shooting, if any, and what type of weapon was used.
