The regional Civil Protection has not issued any alerts for Sunday, September 22 in Sardinia. But in Capoterra, in the Municipality, there are those who have been observing the weather evolution in the west of Sardinia all day. And with models in hand - not all in agreement - it has pushed the mayor Beniamino Garau to warn the population, through social media, of the risk of storms in his territory.
«A progressive worsening of weather conditions is recorded over the western Mediterranean and Sardinia due to the arrival from the west of a mild depression associated with a developing frontal system», warns the mayor, «the low pressure system in its slow movement towards the Balearics will attract a flow of very humid and unstable sirocco currents towards the southern coasts of Sardinia».
In this phase, called pre-frontal "and which will concern the morning of tomorrow, Sunday 22 September approximately from the early hours of the day until mid-morning, the formation of very localized and intense thunderstorms with slow evolution or semi-stationary near the coast cannot be excluded".
In the early afternoon, a line of instability is expected to pass from the west, which will involve the whole of Sardinia. Garau therefore underlines that « it is also probable in this phase the development of new convective and storm patterns on the mountainous areas of Sulcis and in possible subsequent evolution towards Capoterra».
The precipitation, the warning says, "could reach the intensity of a downpour and be accompanied by hail."
At the moment, we cannot go too far: «The high-resolution meteorological models», Murgioni underlines, «still show, despite the worsening being imminent, a notable divergence in the results, for which the degree of forecast uncertainty is high».
