A workshop transformed into an incinerator: staff from the Uta Forestry Station executed a precautionary seizure order issued by the investigating judge in the Sa Guardia Lunga area, in the Capoterra area.
The operation involved a fully fenced property containing several warehouses used as mechanical workshops. During the inspection, CFVA personnel discovered the illegal disposal of waste, including hazardous waste, which was being set on fire.
In particular , a large, still-smoking iron drum was identified, used to incinerate materials deriving from the body shop activity, including drums of thinner, bottles, and electrical cables.
An area of approximately 6,780 square meters and a quantity of approximately 6 cubic meters of already burned materials were seized.
The business owner, a resident of Capoterra, has been reported to the judicial authorities. He faces charges of illegal waste management and disposal, aggravated by the hazardous nature of the waste and the use of fire as a disposal method.
The Forestry Corps reminds us that " waste disposal through combustion, in addition to polluting the soil, releases highly toxic fumes into the atmosphere, deriving in this case from mechanical and bodywork waste ."
