This evening, the Regional Council Building will be illuminated in blue, pink, and white (the colors of the transgender flag) to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance.
The request was made by the Sardinian association Queer of Cagliari in memory of the victims of transphobia and in support of the visibility and dignity of trans people.
Transgender Day of Remembrance, celebrated on November 20, was established in memory of Rita Hester , whose murder in 1998 prompted the creation of the Remembering Our Dead web project and, the following year, a candlelight vigil in San Francisco. The initiative has since expanded to include commemorations in hundreds of cities around the world.
