Cagliari's new stadium, parking and surface rights agreed upon: the concession fee remains a sticking point.
The club aims to pay €50,000 a year, but the city council believes this is too low. Sports Councilor Giuseppe Macciotta: "We'll find a solution."Video di Mauro Madeddu
The surface rights issue has been resolved: "In the updated Financial Planning Document (PEF) received this morning, Cagliari Calcio no longer mentions a mortgage." The parking issue has also been resolved, "for which we have mutually agreed that all parking will be free." The issue of the concession fee remains, for which the club is proposing €50,000 per year.
And considering that Cagliari has already stated that the financial plan for the new stadium, minus parking revenue, would be unsustainable with a higher concession fee, this is the stumbling block. "But I'm confident that with the same constructive spirit of recent months, a solution will be found," assured City Councilor for Sport Giuseppe Macciotta.
So, a glimmer of hope is opening up for the stadium. A faint glimmer, but a glimmer nonetheless.
Macciotta spoke at Palazzo Bacaredda, where he was asked to report on the status of the process for the new facility, with a request signed by all the group leaders of the City Council.
The debate has been postponed until next week. But the reactions are immediate. Opposition member Giuseppe Farris (CiviCa24) speaks of difficulties that are "difficult to overcome," despite the submission of the Economic and Financial Planning Document three months ago, "starting with those regarding the concession fee."
