He stole a scooter and fled, but his ride—in a movie-like scene—ended at Poetto. A thirty-two-year-old resident of the province of Vercelli, already known to law enforcement, was arrested this afternoon by the Carabinieri of the Cagliari Mobile Radio Unit, who responded after the theft was reported by the insurance GPS system.
The scooter, according to the police, was intercepted on Viale Lungo Saline. Upon seeing the Carabinieri, the thief fled, endangering several swimmers and motorists along the Poetto beach . The escape continued to the Quartu roundabout, where the fugitive lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the left front side of the Carabinieri car, which, in an attempt to avoid him, ended up on the adjacent sidewalk.
The arrested man's driver's license, following investigation, was found to be expired. Despite minor abrasions to his right arm, he refused medical treatment . He was arrested for resisting a public officer and receiving stolen goods.
