"Tree mortality continues on Via Roma" in Cagliari: this is a bitter observation made by Gianluigi Bacchetta after a walk among the trees that are planned to make up the forest near the port designed by architect Stefano Boeri.

His is a qualified analysis. Bacchetta is no ordinary bystander: he is a professor of Systematic Botany at the University of Cagliari, former director of the botanical garden, and scientific director of the Biodiversity Conservation Center and the Germplasm Bank of Sardinia. He has over 700 publications and a prominent role in the international scientific scene.

"After the recent replacement of about fifteen trees, which died immediately after the work was completed, Canary Island palms and Judas trees continue to die," the professor wrote on social media.

Despite the mild temperatures and pleasant breeze, he explains, "everyone prefers to stroll under the smelly arcades of Via Roma, rather than along the 'Bosco di Boeri'."

The conclusion of the reflection? "Congratulations to the designer and the company that carried out the work."
