Traffic has been revolutionized in Cagliari on the occasion of the G7 Labour and Employment which will be held from 11 to 13 September. With a series of ordinances, the Municipality has arranged a whole series of limitations necessary to guarantee safety and logistical efficiency during the event which will involve ministers and delegations from all over the world.
With the exception of some areas of Castello (where residents will still be able to access), there are no total traffic suspensions planned, only "dynamic closures that will impact vehicular traffic as little as possible and only for the time strictly necessary for the transit of ministers and institutional representatives".
Here is what the three ordinances provide, all signed by the director of the Strategic Works, Mobility and Road Infrastructure Service.
Parking restrictions
From 6pm today, Tuesday 10 September, to 4pm on Friday 13 September, a parking ban with forced removal is in force in the following central streets: Piazza Arsenale, Piazza Indipendenza, Piazza Mafalda Di Savoia, Piazza Palazzo, Via Canelles, Via Campidano, Via Pirastu, Via Solinas, Piazza Deffenu (ACI parking, central part), Viale Cristoforo Colombo (section from number 12 to Via Campidano and from Via Campidano to Piazza Amendola).
Other restrictions: parking prohibited on Viale C. Colombo and Via G. Barbini from midnight on Wednesday 11th to 8am on Thursday 12th. And again from 6pm on 11th to 4pm on 12th September in Via Del Fossario, Bastione Santa Caterina, Piazza Lamarmora, Via De Candia and Via Università. In Viale Pula, in Giorgino, parking prohibited on both sides from midnight on 12th to 8am on 13th September.
Transit bans
Established in some sensitive areas to limit the influx of vehicles. From September 12th until 4:00 p.m. on September 13th, access to non-residents in the Castello district from Piazza Indipendenza is prohibited. Other traffic restrictions concern via Pirastu, via Campidano and via Solinas (from midnight on September 11th to 4:00 p.m. on September 13th).
Restrictions on circulation
As the procession passes, traffic will be temporarily interrupted in Piazza Deffenu, Piazza Amendola, Viale Diaz, Via Sonnino, Viale Colombo, Viale Regina Margherita, Piazza Costituzione, Viale Regina Elena, Piazza Arsenale and Piazza Indipendenza.
The recommendations
Pay maximum attention to temporary signs, consider alternative routes and organize in advance, especially with regard to parking. These measures, explains the Municipality, "although they may cause some inconvenience, are necessary to ensure the proper conduct of an event of international importance such as the G7".
