The 25-year-old responsible for the attack in via Seruci, in Cagliari, last June, was sentenced to three years in prison. Erik Roberto Masala, initially charged with attempted murder, was convicted of grievous bodily harm after the offense was dropped.
Masala had attacked Maurizio Castangia, 26, with a billhook, hitting him in the arm. The wounded man, rushed to Brotzu hospital, had undergone a delicate operation and the doctors had managed to save his limb.
Erik Roberto Masala had lost track of himself and was captured by the police after two days of searches.
The young man had been tracked down in a house right on the same street in the Is Mirrionis district by the investigators of the Flying Squad.
Masala had threatened to blow up the house with a gas cylinder and had released two large dogs. After consulting his lawyer, Riccardo Floris, the young man handed himself over to the agents and was arrested.
