Patched up and surrounded by barriers, but still falling apart. Falling debris from a wall owned by the University prompted the municipal Civil Protection Department to immediately close Via Porcell in Cagliari.

The measure was adopted following an inspection by the fire department. The reopening, once safety measures have been completed, will be promptly communicated on the Municipality's channels.

The wall was never finally secured after a collapse at the end of 2022, which closed the road for five months.

"For some time now," the University has reported, "been carrying out structural monitoring of its assets, particularly of the retaining walls of the buildings along Via Porcell."

A significant renovation project for the former Biological Institutes building, a statement continues, "is funded and is currently being planned . It also includes strengthening the retaining walls and reconditioning the tall trees in the terraced garden. Following a long period of exceptional rainfall, a specific consolidation project is being evaluated as a precautionary measure, prior to the building's renovation."
