The two women from Sassari who have been stranded in Poland since May are returning to Sardinia: "Thank you to those who helped us."

Federica Cossu, a woman from Sassari, and her mother, who had been in Poland for three months, landed in Cagliari this morning at 11:30 a.m. The mother, who had been hospitalized in Wroclaw since May and had suffered several near-death experiences due to two intestinal perforations, is now in the Medina Inner Ward of the Cagliari Polyclinic.

The facility in Capo di Sotto, contacted on August 6, managed to find a bed for the 68-year-old who was unable to return home due to the lack of hospital accommodation.

"I feel a mixture of joy and lightheartedness," Federica says. "At least now my mother is surrounded by people she understands."

The 40-year-old thanks those who supported them, even from afar, the Red Cross, both national and Sassari, which was instrumental in breaking the impasse, and everyone who contributed to the fundraiser to pay for the plane that transported them to Cagliari.

"I learned that my mother is very strong, having survived four septic shocks, that Poland is very beautiful, and that I too am quite resilient, even though I was running out of strength," she says. There are, however, downsides. "The Italian government did nothing, and the embassy offered support, but not in a concrete way."

Now, fortunately, they've both returned to Sardinia. One wonders, however, if it could have happened sooner.
