Cagliari's Holy Trinity and Health Center are at risk of closure. This is what emerges from a letter sent yesterday by the Local Health Authority's extraordinary commissioner, Aldo Atzori, to the city's prefect. The alarm is said to be triggered by critical safety issues at both facilities , located on Via Is Mirrionis and Via Romagna respectively. As Atzori explains, the fire department fined the Local Health Authority for failing to submit the first-level SCIA (Certificate of Emergency Situation), a requirement required to ensure the safety of the buildings . The commissioner emphasizes that the problem stems from previous management and has persisted , despite the health authority's efforts to address it.
The situation is critical and requires immediate intervention, but the Local Health Authority (ASL) alone is unable to do so, "as it would require a significant financial sacrifice that cannot be met with company resources ." For this reason, "the competent regional bodies—the RAS Presidency and the Department of Hygiene and Health—have been contacted to secure adequate funding to resolve the problem."
But even in this case , the work would not be completed within the timeframe requested by the fire department . The local health authority (ASL) is therefore left with its hands tied, faced with a situation "that has been known for some time" and which requires rapid intervention to prevent the closure of the two sites. For this reason, Atzori has requested a technical meeting with all stakeholders involved—the Region, the local health authority (ASL), the fire department, and other relevant bodies—to find an immediate, sustainable solution that will not directly burden the city and its patients.
The matter has already reached the Regional Council : Councilor Umberto Ticca (Reformists) has submitted an urgent question to the President of the Region and the Health Councilor regarding the possible closure of the Santissima Trinità Emergency Room and the buildings of the Cittadella della Salute on Via Romagna. " The mere thought of closing the Santissima Trinità Emergency Room is unacceptable . In a system already collapsing, it would mean leaving thousands of citizens without answers and worsening the emergency, with ambulances queuing and patients waiting for hours," Ticca stated. The councilor also noted that the Cagliari Local Health Authority had already reported serious structural issues in February, without receiving any response. He then appealed to the Region: "Intervene immediately to ensure the safety and continuity of healthcare services in Cagliari."
