He has been on hunger strike since the beginning of December and is now launching an appeal to the President of the Republic , Sergio Mattarella, to ask that his brother Alessandro Atzeni, 49 years old, currently locked up in the Uta penitentiary, be moved as soon as possible to a rehabilitation facility suitable for his health conditions.

Arianna Atzeni, in her letter to the head of state, recounts the "dramatic story" of her brother Alessandro who - she writes - "was the victim of a brutal attack last July in the penal colony of Isili in the province of Cagliari , which left him in a coma and required neurosurgery for a cerebral hemorrhage . Despite his serious health conditions and his clear vulnerability, he was transferred to prison at the end of his hospital stay, without adequate continuity of care being guaranteed. The doctors who treated him highlighted the urgency of a rehabilitation program to address the serious neurological and motor consequences resulting from the attack he suffered ."

"However, to date - continues Atzeni - Alessandro has not received the prescribed physiotherapy nor the necessary support for his dual diagnosis, remaining in a condition of serious abandonment . Despite my recent assignment as a support administrator, I find myself facing bureaucratic and institutional obstacles that further compromise his recovery and his dignity".

Arianna Atzeni, who turned to the lawyer Armida Decina of the Rome bar, urges an intervention by Mattarella "so that Alessandro is guaranteed an adequate treatment and rehabilitation path, possibly in a specialized health facility that can deal with his complex clinical condition".
