The most critical phase of work on Via Galvani concludes today. The Abbanoa construction site, which for several weeks has affected the 80 meters of road leading to the heart of the Genneruxi neighborhood, has completed the connections to the new sewer line. As was the case yesterday, the road will be completely closed to traffic from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to allow workers to complete the last four remaining connections. At the end of today, the lane from Viale Marconi to Via Galvani should reopen.

The closure was particularly severe during rush hour, when the entire hinterland commutes to the city from Viale Marconi for work. With Via Galvani closed, the only alternative for those coming from Genneruxi is to take Via Mercalli, while those coming from Quartu or San Benedetto are forced to extend their usual route.

According to Abbanoa, the pipeline has undergone several repairs in recent years, and it was therefore decided to proceed with a complete replacement. The various construction sites along Viale Marconi over the years also made that stretch particularly problematic: when traffic was diverted onto Via Galvani, the increased traffic load put additional stress on the old pipeline, causing new breaks. The damage also created difficulties for some buildings in the area in disposing of wastewater into the sewer system.

The final phase now involves the connections across the new pipeline. To complete them, the entire roadway had to be closed, Abbanoa explained, preventing traffic in both directions during the work. Five connections were completed yesterday on one side of the road, while the final four are scheduled for completion today.

The road will thus be passable again, but not yet in its final form: the construction site isn't completely closed, as the actual asphalting won't begin until after mid-August. Until then, the temporary concrete laid in the next few days will remain, awaiting the final work that will restore the area to its original state.
