Drugs, especially synthetic substances, are on the rise among minors, along with red code cases and a high rate of school dropouts.

These are the emergencies that emerged during this morning's meeting at the Prefecture in Cagliari of the members of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the safety conditions and state of degradation of the city. They included Mayor Massimo Zedda, Prefect Giuseppe Castaldo, Police Chief Rosanna Lavezzaro, the provincial commanders of the Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza, and the sole director of the Regional Housing Agency, Matteo Sestu.

"We were shown," emphasized Alessandro Battilocchio (Forza Italia), chairman of the commission, composed of MPs, "a situation common to other metropolitan cities. But we also welcomed the extensive planning underway for the revitalization and redevelopment of the suburbs and the plans for inclusion and integration."

The main concerns, based on data released by the Prefecture and law enforcement, are primarily related to drug dealing: "Drug use is on the rise," Battilocchio added, "especially among the very young. Cases involving "red code" are also high. And then there's the school dropout rate in the metropolitan area: 22 percent of school-age children are neither in school nor working."

The projects and interventions launched by the Municipality are positive, as highlighted by Andrea De Maria (Democratic Party), "thanks to European, national, and regional funds. The work initiated by the new sole director of the Area for Social Housing is excellent."

The deputies then carried out an inspection of Piazza del Carmine, Sant'Elia, San Michele, and Is Mirrionis, and will continue their visits tomorrow.

"Our mission is to analyze the data and then report it all," emphasized MP Antonino Iaria (M5S) , "but also to highlight positive models to follow. A priority is the fight against poverty, which creates divergences. In Sardinia, the basic income has been a useful tool. Now we need to introduce other measures."

Prefect Castaldo was pleased and then accompanied the delegation to Piazza del Carmine, where the red zone has been in place for several days: "We recalled how much is being done to ensure the safety of citizens, with projects and initiatives, and not just with the daily patrols of the territory carried out by law enforcement . And in this regard, too, the collaboration and understanding with the Municipality of Cagliari is important."

In the evening, the deputies will attend a special dinner at the Locanda dei Buoni e Cattivi, run by "special" people and part of the cooperative of the same name, a social enterprise project of Ugo Bressanello's Domus de Luna Foundation.
