The Cagliari city council raises the alarm on the wind invasion of the gulf. And says no to the floating offshore wind farm “Sardegna 2” of Renexia Spa .
We are talking about 55 wind turbines for a power of 825 MW, a plant that should involve the Gulf of Cagliari and the Sardinian channel. Therefore, in addition to Cagliari, numerous other municipalities in Southern Sardinia. The energy produced will then be transported to the national grid via submarine and terrestrial cables.
There is great concern about the environmental impact of the project on the marine ecosystem, on fisheries and on maritime activities in general, including shipping routes and tourism .
In the agenda approved today unanimously, the council commits the Executive to evaluate "with great attention, during the EIA, the completeness and adequacy of the project, with particular reference to the impact on the landscape, the marine environment, the avifauna, the navigation routes, and tourist activities" .
In the debate in the council, the importance of the energy transition was underlined, the "extraordinary opportunity" of energy communities, and the installation of photovoltaic systems in public buildings was also requested - as stated in the approved motion.
In short, it is not a no to renewable energy and energy transition. But it is asked, in the face of the mega projects that loom, to pay "maximum attention to the protection of the landscape, the terrestrial marine environment, the migratory routes of avifauna, and navigation routes" .
