Not just a fishing ban, wholesale fish market operators are asking the City of Cagliari for help. In a letter to the administration , the operators request a meeting to address as soon as possible the numerous issues that are threatening the smooth running of their business.

"Due to the prolonged suspension of fishing and the long-standing critical issues affecting the facility, operators are experiencing significant difficulties . In recent years," the list begins, "several companies have relinquished their concessions , and even the bar service has been closed due to economic unsustainability. Problems include high rents, the lack of essential services such as ice, additional charges for bringing in goods outside of normal hours, very restrictive access, a deteriorated facility, and concessions that impose unprotected maintenance costs."

But that's not all: "Added to this is the growing presence of irregular trade outside the market and the improper use of entrances by external companies that, once inside to deliver to dealers, unload goods destined for buyers, generating unfair competition to the detriment of legitimate operators."

The concessionaires do not intend to stir up controversy, but rather ask the administration to open a discussion table to address both the immediate needs of the supply chain and a shared review of the market's management and space. The fish market remains a strategic hub for local produce and for Sardinia's food security.

The operators confirm their full availability for dialogue , "in the belief that only collaboration can transform the current crisis into an opportunity for recovery."
