Murder during the night in a public building in via Podgora , in Cagliari , where a 77-year-old man - Luciano Ellies - stabbed his 59-year-old wife Ignazia Tumatis to death at the height of a furious argument.
The crime took place after 11pm and it was the couple's daughters who raised the alarm on the single emergency number: sensing that something serious had happened, they went to their parents' house and there they found their mother lying in a puddle of blood and the father standing in shock.
“He laughed in my face and I never saw him again,” were the man's only words .
The Flying Squad patrols were the first to intervene on site and stopped the man, who was then taken over by the Flying Squad officers. The 118 ambulance was also on site and tried in vain to resuscitate the woman.
Police investigations are underway to reconstruct what happened.
