The works on Via Roma in Cagliari, at least for the first stretch, are now concluded after two years of waiting. This afternoon part of the horizontal road markings were drawn: almost everything is ready for the reopening to traffic, with the inauguration scheduled for the next few days. The aim is for it to take place between Friday and Saturday.
The nets of the construction site of the arcades of via Roma, piazza Amendola and the port side will disappear. The reopening concerns the stretch of road that, from the intersection with via XX settembre reaches up to via Barcellona . From viale Regina Margherita you will also be able to turn right. The works that began in March 2023, with the now imminent reopening, are certainly not finished: now we move forward with the second lot, up to the intersection with largo Carlo Felice.
The people of Cagliari will also be able to see up close the new gardens with swings and games for children, one of the novelties of the project. The works in Piazza Matteotti are also close to completion, but the inauguration date should be after the opening of Via Roma . The second part of the works will end in the spring of 2025. For the last phase of the interventions there are two unknowns: the old city walls should resurface from the excavations and we must also take into account the works for the subway. Precisely on these construction sites, workers are at work today both in the stretch of Viale Diaz and in that of Viale Cimitero .
Possible traffic variations are already being studied with the Port System Authority and the Engineering Faculty, considering when the trains will start operating: a series of roundabouts have been hypothesized to distribute the cars that will cross Via Roma .
