Redevelopment work has begun on the outdoor area surrounding the parish oratory of San Sebastiano, between Via Ignazio Serra and Via Giovanni della Casa. The first to be affected by the renovation are the two long-abandoned sports fields. "The start of the work represents a concrete and long-awaited result ," commented Michele Boero, President of the Cagliari City Council's Sports Commission. "It's not simply about the restoration of two sports fields, but about the return to the community of a space that has been in a state of disrepair for too long."
Boero adds: "The project involves redeveloping the existing fields and improving the entire area through improvements to safety, lighting, accessibility, and the enhancement of common areas, creating an open, welcoming space accessible to all."
The redevelopment project will be carried out by the Municipality with its own funds and follows several discussions between the administration and the San Sebastiano neighborhood committee. The latter, together with the parish, had previously drafted a list of proposals, most of which were approved by the Municipality.
These include the redevelopment of the playing fields, as well as the creation of a green area with trees, lighting, cameras, barrier-free walkways, benches, children's playgrounds, and activities for teenagers and people of all ages. The Region will also oversee the extraordinary maintenance and safety of the oratory, which has some critical internal issues. The neighborhood committee, the parish, and local residents, who have long called for the redevelopment of an abandoned area that, unfortunately, is also at the mercy of vandals, are pleased.
