The driver of the car that went off the road between Friday night and Saturday night and crashed into a palm tree in Cagliari, on Lungo Saline, near the roundabout that leads to Viale Poetto, risks a fine of thousands of euros.

The man - a 52-year-old resident of Southern Sardinia who suffered injuries in the collision - refused to undergo an alcohol test and a drug test.

The Local Police Emergency Response Unit, the Fire Department – who extracted the man from the deformed passenger compartment – and a 118 ambulance intervened on site after the crash for first aid and subsequent transport to the hospital. The rescuers immediately suspected that the 52-year-old could be in altered psychophysical conditions . However, the tests on the possible intake of alcohol and drugs, requested at the hospital, were not carried out because, as mentioned, the driver refused.
For this reason, in accordance with the Highway Code, the man will be reported to the judicial authorities, who could impose a fine of between 1,500 and 6,000 euros – doubled due to his involvement in an accident – and the revocation of his driving license.
